Car With Marijuana In Trunk Crashes Into State Trooper

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- It might be one of the easiest drug busts ever for the Highway Patrol.

Authorities say a car with 43 pounds of marijuana in the trunk crashed into a trooper's cruiser on Interstate 95 near Santee early Sunday.

Captain Chris Williamson says two troopers had parked their cars in the northbound lanes of the highway because of a couple of wrecks.

Williamson says a car going about 70 miles an hour hit one of the cruisers, causing minor injuries to the trooper inside.

Orangeburg County Sheriff's Deputy Warren Pendry says officers found two large duffel bags with marijuana worth more than $150,000.

Fifty-four-year-old Howard Fisher of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, is charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine and trafficking marijuana.
