Hitler's Bottle Of Wine Sold For 3,995 British Pounds.
London, Feb. 18 : An unopened bottle of red wine belonging to late German dictator Adolf Hitler that went on auction on Saturday has exceeded expectations by fetching 3,995 pounds.
The 'F|hrerwein' dates from 1943 and features a picture of the dictator, the Nazi eagle and swastika, and was expected to fetch a whopping 500 pounds, reports the Daily Mail.
Hitler, who rarely drank, used to give wine to his top generals on his birthday.
The bottle, which was discovered in a garage in France, was purchased by an anonymous buyer in Ivybridge, Devon, who has now decided to sell it.
The wine, however, is likely to be undrinkable because the bottle had not been stored properly.
The auction ended with the final bid at 3,400 pounds. The figure of 3,995 pounds includes the buyer's premium.
"I've never seen anything like this in my 20 years as an auctioneer," the Sun had earlier quoted Paul Keen of the Plymouth Auction Rooms, as saying.
"It is very difficult to value. I have no moral issue in selling it on - it is merely an interesting piece from a period of history," he added.
